Alabama Department of Corrections: What Families Need to Know (2026)

Staying close to someone inside an Alabama prison starts with knowing one thing: there is no single statewide visiting schedule. The Alabama Department of Corrections lists 26 facilities, from community based facilities to maximum security prisons, and under ADOC Administrative Regulation 303 each warden sets that facility's own visiting days and hours. Every visit is pre-scheduled, so the most important step is calling the facility itself before you travel. The guide gives the address and phone number for each of the 26 facilities, including Donaldson, Holman, Kilby, and Tutwiler Women's Correctional Facility, so you can reach the right place directly. ADOC's own advice is repeated through the guide: contact the facility for visitation hours and information, and call to confirm before you go, because schedules change. The department's central office is in Montgomery, at 301 South Ripley Street, P.O. Box 301501, Montgomery, Alabama 36130, and its main number is 334-353-3883, with a toll free line at 1-855-WE-R-ADOC. Commissioner Greg Lovelace leads the department, appointed May 1, 2026. If the trip feels uncertain, a quick call to the facility settles it, and the full guide below lists every facility with its county, security type, and phone number.

Cell Secretary is a white-glove concierge service for incarcerated people and their families. If it can be done legally and ethically on the outside, we can usually do it for you.
