Alaska Department of Corrections: What Families Need to Know (2026)
Alaska does things a little differently, because the Department of Corrections runs one unified system covering both jails and prisons. The guide covers 14 institutions, from Anchorage Correctional Complex to Yukon-Kuskokwim Correctional Center in Bethel, each with its address and phone number. There is no statewide visiting schedule: each institution posts its own Visiting page at doc.alaska.gov/institutions, and the guide's advice throughout is to call the facility and confirm before you travel. One exception with set hours is Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward, where visiting runs Sunday through Saturday, 1:00–4:00 p.m., evening visitation remains suspended, and visits are by appointment only, scheduled 24 hours in advance at 907-224-8124. The department's Friends and Family Handbook, updated January 2, 2026, says visitors must be on the prisoner's Approved Visitors List and show a driver's license or state or government ID, and most visits last one hour. Within the first 24 hours after arrest, family may visit at any time. The central office is at 550 West 7th Avenue, Suite 1800, Anchorage, AK 99501-3570, phone 907-334-2381, toll free 844-934-2381, under Commissioner Ronald Taylor.

Cell Secretary is a white-glove concierge service for incarcerated people and their families. If it can be done legally and ethically on the outside, we can usually do it for you.
