Maryland Department of Corrections: What Families Need to Know (2026)

Maryland's correctional system does not run on one visiting calendar, so the guide's most useful advice is to check the facility where your loved one is housed and call ahead. The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services lists 17 detention and correctional facilities, and each one posts its own visiting information.

Some patterns are worth knowing. At Chesapeake Detention Facility in Baltimore, visiting runs Thursday through Monday, with a first session from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a second from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central Maryland Correctional Facility in Sykesville visits on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Friday through Monday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover visits on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in scheduled time slots, while Roxbury Correctional Institution in Hagerstown visits Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Several facilities also run visits on an odd and even schedule tied to the last digit of the person's DOC number, and Baltimore Central Booking rotates in-person and virtual weeks through the year. The guide gives each facility's address and phone number, plus the central office in Baltimore, so you can confirm the current schedule before traveling.

Cell Secretary is a white-glove concierge service for incarcerated people and their families. If it can be done legally and ethically on the outside, we can usually do it for you.
