Michigan Department of Corrections: What Families Need to Know (2026)
Michigan's guide covers all 26 prisons linked from the Department of Corrections Prisons page, and its visiting system runs facility by facility. There is no statewide schedule: hours vary by facility and housing unit and are posted on the department's In-Person Visiting Schedules, and visits are scheduled through ViaPath from 48 hours to 7 days ahead.
That means the two steps that matter most are finding the right facility and booking in its window. The guide gives each prison's address, phone number, and warden, along with the public email the department lists for general questions and visiting applications, so you can reach the facility directly about its schedule.
Two current notices in the guide are worth noting before you plan a trip: some housing units at the Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center in Jackson are on quarantine status and closed for visits until further notice, as is Housing Unit C-1 at Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater. The guide also lists the women's facility, Women's Huron Valley in Ypsilanti, and the department's central office in Lansing. Times can change, so please call the facility before you travel.
