Minnesota Department of Corrections: What Families Need to Know (2026)
Minnesota's guide lists 11 adult facilities, and visiting hours are set facility by facility, so the right schedule is always the one for the facility where your loved one is housed. All facilities close visiting on state holidays, and the guide notes that schedules change, so calling ahead is the safest step before any trip.
A few examples show how much the hours vary. MCF-Faribault visits Thursdays from 3:45–8:30 p.m., Fridays from 11:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 a.m.–3:45 p.m. MCF-Lino Lakes visits Thursdays and Fridays from 11:45 a.m.–9:00 p.m. and weekends from 8:45 a.m.–6:00 p.m. MCF-Moose Lake's visiting room is open Fridays through Sundays from 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., while MCF-St. Cloud visits Thursdays and Fridays in two evening sessions and weekends in morning and afternoon sessions.
To become a visitor, apply online with the department's Visiting Privilege Application. The guide also notes two changes in progress: visiting at MCF-Shakopee is suspended on Thursdays due to construction, and MCF-Stillwater is in a phased closure. The guide lists each facility's address, phone number, and warden, plus the central office in St. Paul.

Cell Secretary is a white-glove concierge service for incarcerated people and their families. If it can be done legally and ethically on the outside, we can usually do it for you.
