Mississippi Department of Corrections: What Families Need to Know (2026)

Mississippi families can start with one steady statewide pattern, then confirm the details for the right facility. According to the department's Family and Friends guide, state facilities generally visit on Saturday or Sunday, with each unit assigned its own day, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Regional and private prisons may differ, so the guide advises confirming with the facility itself.

The guide lists the state's prisons, private prisons, regional correctional facilities, community work centers, restitution centers, and technical violation centers, in the order the department lists them. That includes Central Mississippi Correctional Facility and the Mississippi Correctional Institute for Women in Pearl, Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman, South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Leakesville, and Walnut Grove Correctional Facility, along with regional facilities across the state, from Alcorn County in Corinth to Yazoo Regional in Yazoo City.

Each listing gives the facility's address and phone number, and the guide also lists the department's central office in Jackson. Because each unit has its own assigned visiting day, the practical step is the same one the guide repeats throughout: call the facility to confirm the current schedule before you travel.
