New Hampshire Department of Corrections: What Families Need to Know (2026)
New Hampshire's guide is a short one, because the state has just three correctional facilities, and that simplicity is good news for families trying to keep track. The New Hampshire Correctional Facility for Women in Concord, led by Warden Sarah M. Provencher, holds visits on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, by housing unit and custody level, and can be reached at (603) 271-0200. The New Hampshire State Prison for Men, also in Concord, does not publish visiting hours on the department website; visits are scheduled through the department's visitation system, and families should call (603) 271-1801 to confirm before traveling.
The third facility, Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility in Berlin, holds weekday visits by housing unit only. The guide notes an important change: weekend visits there were cancelled effective December 12, 2025, so a trip planned around a Saturday visit would no longer work. The department is led by Commissioner William Ryan Hart, Jr., and the guide's advice throughout is to call the facility to confirm, since times change.
Beyond the facilities, the guide also collects free and low-cost community help: The Doorway, reached by dialing 2-1-1, offers round-the-clock access to substance-use screening, referral, and crisis stabilization at nine locations statewide, and the statewide addiction crisis line is 1-844-711-4357. For shelter and emergency housing, NH 211 can be reached at 1-866-444-4211, and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline takes calls or texts any hour of the day.
