New Mexico Department of Corrections: What Families Need to Know (2026)

New Mexico's system has one rule that shapes everything else: you must be on the approved visitation list, and visitation applications are renewed every two years. Video visitation is available for approved visitors if you contact the facility to set one up. The New Mexico Corrections Department, led by Cabinet Secretary Alisha Tafoya Lucero, runs nine facilities in the guide, and days vary by facility and security level, so the department's visitation page is the place to check facility-specific times.

A few facilities spell out their own patterns. Guadalupe County Correctional Facility allows one visit per week per inmate, with in-person visits on Friday, general population 8:00–10:30 a.m. and 12:30–2:30 p.m., and requests go to GCCF.Visitation@cd.nm.gov. Northeast New Mexico Correctional Facility holds in-person barrier visits Monday through Friday, scheduled at least a week ahead, with an optional two consecutive days of two hours each, and visits are non-contact unless you are immediate family with proof of kinship. At Central New Mexico Correctional Facility, reception and diagnostic center inmates may visit only with immediate family.

Mail goes to facility addresses such as P.O. Box 520 for Guadalupe County, P.O. Box 1059, Santa Fe, NM 87504-1059 for the Penitentiary of New Mexico, and P.O. Box 27116, Santa Fe, NM 87502-0116 for the central office. One caution stands out: at the privately operated Otero County Prison Facility, inmates cannot receive phone calls or electronic correspondence. Before you go, call the facility to confirm the current schedule.

Cell Secretary is a white-glove concierge service for incarcerated people and their families. If it can be done legally and ethically on the outside, we can usually do it for you.
