Pennsylvania Department of Corrections: What Families Need to Know (2026)

For families writing to someone in a Pennsylvania state prison, the mailing address in the guide is the same for every facility: Smart Communications/PADOC, with the person's name and inmate number and the institution, at P.O. Box 33028, St. Petersburg, FL 33733. Using that central address, exactly as the guide gives it, is the key detail to get right before you send anything.

Visits work differently from mail. Pennsylvania schedules visits through its Inmate Visitation System, and you must book 3 to 60 days ahead. Days and hours vary by institution and show up in the system itself, so the guide does not list one set of visiting hours for the whole state. As always, it advises calling the facility to confirm before you travel.

The guide covers all 23 state correctional institutions linked from the department's State Prisons page, plus Quehanna Boot Camp, with each facility's address, phone number, and superintendent where listed. Examples include SCI Albion at 814-756-5778, SCI Phoenix at 610-409-7890, and Quehanna Boot Camp in Karthaus at (814) 263-4125. The department's central office in Mechanicsburg can be reached at 717-728-2573.

The full guide, compiled in November 2026 from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, puts every facility's details together for families.
