Tennessee Department of Corrections: What Families Need to Know (2026)
Tennessee's guide begins with the mailing rule families need most, because it is the same for every facility. Mail for an inmate is addressed with the name of the prison, the inmate's first and last name, and TDOC identification number, sent to P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131. That single central address, as given on every facility page, is worth double-checking before you post anything.
Visits are by appointment only. Each warden sets the days for their prison, including Saturdays, Sundays, and one evening each week, and the department's visitation page lists each prison's scheduling phone. The guide notes that no per-facility visiting schedules are posted on the facility pages, so calling ahead to confirm is the safest step before traveling.
The guide lists 15 prisons from the department's State Prison List, with each one's address, phone number, and warden. The department says it has 14 state prisons, ten department-operated and four managed by CoreCivic, with the Women's Therapeutic Residential Center listed separately on the grounds of the West Tennessee State Penitentiary. The department's central office in Nashville can be reached at (615) 741-1000.
The full guide, compiled in November 2026 from the Tennessee Department of Correction, brings all of this together for families.

Cell Secretary is a white-glove concierge service for incarcerated people and their families. If it can be done legally and ethically on the outside, we can usually do it for you.
