Wyoming Department of Corrections: What Families Need to Know (2026)

Wyoming's guide is unusually candid about what it cannot give you: visiting schedules are not published on the DOC's facility pages, so for every facility the answer is to call ahead and confirm. The guide covers all five state-run prisons, three contracted Adult Community Corrections centers, and the contracted Casper Therapeutic Community, under Director Dan Shannon, and it notes that no Wyoming inmates are currently housed out of state, after the DOC returned all 240 inmates placed at Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Mississippi in August 2026.

The state-run prisons are Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins, where Warden Shawn Hobson leads a high-custody men's facility and where visitors must be on the approved visitor list, with an application filled out and approved before visiting; Wyoming Women's Center in Lusk; Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington, which serves as an intake center; and the two minimum-custody men's facilities, Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp in Newcastle and Wyoming Honor Farm in Riverton. Mail to the penitentiary goes to P.O. Box 400 in Rawlins, and mail to the Women's Center goes to P.O. Box 300 in Lusk.

The three community corrections centers, Casper Reentry Center, Cheyenne Transitional Center, and Volunteers of America Booth Hall in Gillette, are transitional reentry facilities, not prisons, housing probationers, parolees, and inmates preparing to reenter Wyoming communities. For help beyond the facilities, the guide lists the SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, and Wyoming-specific referrals through the DOC central office at (307) 777-7208.

Cell Secretary is a white-glove concierge service for incarcerated people and their families. If it can be done legally and ethically on the outside, we can usually do it for you.
